I do wish they would untie the alliance system from kurzick/luxon. Many guild leaders have not gotten to the capitals, and many more in the future may not even have factions. A few chapters down the road this will get to be a problem, especially for newer players.

the guild alliances are great because it allows you to string together several guilds into one large lively community that feels like a village with several households.
however, alliances for the sake of faction farming and town control ... no thank you.
imho, keep the guild alliances but i hope we don't see any opposing factions and faction farming in the pve of nightfall, or any other future chapters of GW.

While this is true in part there is a slight difference which is the fact guilds forming an alliance can still hold to their family feeling. Imagine entering a guild of 250 members (the size of the alliance me and my guild are currently in) you wouldn't possibly know each of those members and even with time you would most likely get to know a dozen or so at best.
Now in an alliance it's no problem really because you're entering a guild of 30 maybe 40 whom you can gradualy get to know and past that you get to know the members of the alliance you play with but without any sort of pressure.
This is what the alliance gave to guildwars, a chance to make bigger groups of like minded players but without losing the close tight feeling you have with your guild and I certainly hope the system is brought to nightfall but without the bad part of it which is to try to integrate it into the gameplay somehow
To be fair at the moment our alliance has one or two friendly alliances we would like to join so if the guild capacity went up we could use it.

The faction farming and city control business is pretty lame.
But the alliance idea itself - letting smaller guilds team up into a larger group but still keep their guild identity - is very nice.

I honestly doubt they will be writting new alliance content into nightfall. If they do I truly hope it isn't owning towns and 1337 missions. Right now, if we lost all our guilds from our alliance I could care less. We've had horrible luck with alliances since the KEYS alliance broke up... There is enough ego headbanging in game, I'd rather not have to read it in alliance chat as well, which is why it's off 90% of the time

Good for you. But others still like the alliance feature(minus the faction crap) and hopes that it continues into a better system for Nightfall.

For 2 hours we repeated out process and got to know each other well. Things were fine until an officer of their Guild showed up. He was outraged at them for consorting with someone who was not with their alliance. He told them to drop me off at town or be expelled from their Guild. I was outraged! Since when do pubesant so-called officers from some where tell people who and who cannot play a game?! They apologized and said they would drop me off at town....
This is not the first time this has happened. Alliance based town ownership killed the video game star. The Faction system is nice but should not be a determination on who owns a town. Town ownership should be determined by one Alliance kicking the butt of some other Alliance in a GvG style game; or an Alliance Battle style game. At least that method shows 1337 skills. The current method shows no talent at all.

I totally agree that someone should not be telling someone else how to play the game that they paid their $50 for. I also agree that taking over a town by paying anything (gold, faction what ever) should have not been a factor. Fighting for it would have been much better and would have given those pvpers something to do.
There are, and always will be people who take this game entirely too seriously and that is why, my partner and I quit our last guild and formed our own. When we started aligning with others, we made it quite clear that we weren't interested in taking over anything and the main priority was to have fun and play the game however they wanted. I encourage people to trade their faction for jaditte or amber and make some money or make armor or what ever.
Having said that, let me say this......I like part of the alliance alliance idea. The part about being that several guilds can get together, marshal their resources and do things together whether it be quests, missions, pvping.....what ever. It's great for smaller guilds to band together without having to give up their guilds, leadership, members, etc.
So my wish for Nightfall is this: Discontinue the owning of towns through faction but continue the alliances for playing purposes.

Being a member of XoO, our alliance is used to keep more people intouch and we act as one big guild in a way so I don't see Nightfall changing much for us.
Unless you are going for armor or money, Faction Farming is pointless in my eyes. I was guildless for months due to the fact that most of the established guilds required something like 5k Faction to be farmed a day to remain a member. Total asshatry.

It will probably be like Tyria. We had the Krytans, the shiverpeaks dwarves, Ascalonians, etc. So I doubt it will be anything like factions.

I think alliances as a group of guilds should stay, but the town-pwning should be gone.
I mean, my guild has 2 people in it: me, and a close friend in real life.
We are reluctant to add other people into our guild, since not many people want to join a two person guild where the two people already know eachother. Any people we tried inviting felt left out...
So, the alliances were a blessing to us. We got into an alliance with a few other medium-sized guilds, and we had more people to form groups with, to trade with, (don't get me started on trying to trade items ingame...), etc. We could still have our little 2-person guild, with our cape, hall, and all, as well as other people to talk and enjoy the game with.
Our alliance isn't focused on faction farming or twon-pwnzering, we just chat and have a good time.
(lol it sounds like im trying to recruit new guilds or something.. im not. we're already full.)

Agreed. Alliances aren't out dated. True guilds joining together was part of the original intent of factions. But it also serves the purpose of bringing the community together.

I love our alliance rules. We use AvA as a more fun / bonding among our alliance & the guildes. Our only rule is this, if you go on one of the allaince ava blocks (aka multiple teams within the alliance for several hours) you have to give up 5k of the faction.. the rest is yours. Also you don't have to actually do AvA if you don't want.
I love the concept of alliances because it allows better networking among many small guilds to be a part of something larger even if you don't AvA of GvG. All you have to do is mention, hey anyone doing X quest or mission or I'm stuck at.. and there a chance that someone in the alliance (outside of your own guild) can is willing to join you.
